Hello everyone and welcome to the first episode in this series, ‘My Partner, My Pride’
We women have always supported women but behind every successful woman there is a man, her Partner who has travelled this journey with her through thick and thin, trials and turbulences and finally bringing in the triumph. We are talking about men who have been comfortable in their skin, who are thrilled to see their spouse/wife or their partner succeed yet they haven’t been traumatized or troubled about it.
Our first story in this segment My Partner My Pride is of Mr Ripujit Chaudhuri, Head of Risk Management, ICICI Securities Ltd. for his wife Sraboni Chaudhuri, one of the most refined singers in the genre of Ghazals.
Music had been Sraboni’s passion throughout her journey since childhood. She also gave up her full time job to pursue singing with optimum dedication.
Ripujit shares that “I have seen Sraboni as to how she has really committed to this through the highs and lows and how she has held this close to her heart. Of course me in my small way, whatever is possible I have certainly tried my best to see what best we could do in this particular journey”
On being asked, about the emotions that run through his mind when the audience applauds your wife’s performance, Ripujit very openly states that “…if you do a simple search on Google with her name… her features would far outweigh what you would see of mine… and you shouldn’t really, if I may call it jealousy or whatever you term it that should not come into the picture”
Ripujit then shares the emotional turmoil that they went thought when Sraboni had contracted H1N1 virus flu and had almost lost her voice. This was an extremely difficult phase as she was on a ventilator for a period of almost a month wherein doctors were not even able to give us an assurance on whether she will be able to speak again.
“In a situation like that you can think for a person who has devoted 20 years of her life practically to music. But there again as I mentioned, Sraboni showed a lot of resilience”
6 months of continuous exercise got her out of the voice box and another 6 months to start singing again. 10 years since then, she is now giving full time performances and Ripujit believes that that’s really God’s grace, a lot of perseverance and a lot of hard work to pull back from where she was
In any marriage or relationship, Respect for one another is very important. And Ripujit does just that. He believes in giving each other space so one can do what one’s heart desires to do.
“ To be frank it’s easy to say, but for a woman it’s not that easy in practice…All that put together, I think Respect is to be able to ensure in a relationship, both the spouses get the freedom and get the space to do what their heart desires”
Finally Ripujit concludes by mentioning a key point that in a successful marital relationship, it is important to support your partner, share your experiences, and share your growth. Also one should follow their heart because, in a relation, it’s most important to stay happy in what you are doing.
